My Utopia
A short film I art directed called My Utopia. I was in charge of establishing the look and feel of the piece, using distinct keywords given to me by the director: Internalize, Serve, Hope, Speak, Emergence. From these keywords I created the concept of the shots being symmetrical (emergence), as to mimic the patterns in her life, as well as the symmetrical layout of the book. In each shot, there is also a pattern (dots, plaid, etc). Her yellow dress and the direct lighting on her face in each shot spoke to the keyword "hope." It also took place in very early 80's so all of the shots were somewhat aged in their feel (Internalize). With the help of a small team we were able to assemble sets, wardrobe, and props that would be found in the early 80's.
